Description
[Land Registry – HENNET (Albert-Joseph-Ulpien)]. A systematic collection of laws, decrees, regulations, instructions and decisions concerning the land registry of France; approved by the Minister of Finance. Templates. Paris, Imprimerie Impériale, 1811.
Folio, comprising [1] title leaf, 183 pp., including 1 engraved map (separate from the text), 2 engraved maps (separate from the text) spread across a double page and enhanced, and a fold-out chart. Green morocco, smooth decorated spine, gilt title (contemporary binding). A few slight nicks or scratches. Small traces of water damage in places. Last leaf (table) detached.
In 1808, France adopted, for the first time, a cadastral decree applicable to the whole of the country, bringing to fruition a long-standing project, first envisaged in Colbert’s time but which had long remained unimplemented. This publication marks the first systematic organisation of all the legislative provisions arising from the General Decree of 1808. It provides an exhaustive inventory of the various components of the territory – houses, castles, cultivated land, meadows, woods and coppices – and thus offers a valuable insight into the workings of the administration under the imperial regime.
