A historical treatise on the temporal power of the popes, on the abuse they made of their spiritual office; and on the wars they waged against sovereigns; particularly those who held sway in Italy. Paris, Le Normand, 1810. 8vo, green half-calf, smooth spine richly decorated, title page (bound in later binding). Second edition published in May of the same year as the original (published in February), of this text commissioned from Daunou in the context of the conflict between Napoleon and Pope Pius VII, which led to theexcommunication of the Emperor and the arrest of the Pope in 1809, who was detained in Savona until 1812 and then at Fontainebleau until 1814.
