Description
DUHAMEL (Georges). *Lives of the Martyrs 1914–1916*; Paris, Mercure de France, 1917. In-12, blue half-maroquin, plain spine, gilt title, gilt head, covers preserved (contemporary binding). Seventh edition. This copy is accompanied by an AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED by the author, dated 24 November 1917. Georges Duhamel was then a medical assistant major in an ‘autochir’, a motorised surgical ambulance designed to operate on the wounded as close as possible to the battlefield. Handwritten bookplate by Antoinette Morin-Pons. Spine faded and slightly rubbed, otherwise a fine copy.
