Dial: white enamel, painted Arabic numerals, painted railway track. Hands: gilded openwork. Glass: domed mineral glass. Movement: mechanical, key-wound, special quadrature, quarter-hour repeater activated on demand by pressing the pendant, gilded and engraved mainplate and bridges, signed ‘Bassereau, Palais Royal’. Set: none. Diameter: 58 mm. Gross weight: 130.00 g. Hilaire Bassereau was a Parisian watchmaker renowned for his quarter-hour repeater watches in the very early 19th century, based at the Palais Royal — the epicentre of the Parisian luxury trade during the Empire and the Restoration.
