Note: Emil Oscar Richter (1841-1905) founded a watchmaking company in Poststrasse, Germany, in 1868. The company quickly expanded into drawing instruments, notably with the invention of compasses and drawing boxes. In 1875 Richter went into partnership with Hugo Lucas Muller and the company became E.O.Richter & Co. Thereafter, the company had various partners until Emil Richter's death in 1905. At this point, the company was managed by Auguste, then Hans Richter, and took a monopoly on the manufacture of compasses. In 1945, the company was bought by VEBB Kombinat and became DDR until 1980.
