CHINA, Canton, late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tableware set, forty-three pieces in Canton porcelain, decorated with figures and flowers in cartouches against a background of floral motifs, comprising:
. Eleven medium and four large octagonal plates;
. Six teacups, marked ‘China’ on the bases;
. Six saucers marked ‘Made in China’ on the bases (one cracked);
. Three small bowls;
. Two bowls with fluted sides, marked ‘China’ on the bases;
. Four small cups with lids;
. Four large plates with different decorations;
. One lidded four-lobed dish, marked ‘Made in China’ (cracks in the lid);
. Four small bowls, two of which are leaf-shaped;
. One terrine without a lid and with a larger interior;

Various sizes.
Provenance: Passed down through the generations from a family of chemists from the Besançon region, who lived in Shanghai and then in Indochina between the 1920s and 1940s.
