JAPAN, Meiji period, late 19th century. Oval inrô with three compartments, decorated with crayfish in polychrome takamaki-e and inlaid with mother-of-pearl on a gilded ground, depicting crayfish, with the mother-of-pearl ones on the sides. With a netsuke formed from a natural, lacquered and decorated shell. (Some mother-of-pearl missing, minor chipping) Dimensions of inrô: 8 x 7.5 cm – Length of netsuke: 4.2 cm. Expert: Anne Papillon
