CHINA, late Qing dynasty–Minguo period, early 20th century. A Hu-shaped porcelain vase with a lavender-blue glaze known as ‘moonlight’, the shoulder adorned with two elephant masks in relief holding fixed rings; a spurious six-character Qianlong seal mark in blue on the lavender-glazed foot. (Minor chipping of the glaze on the rim; a firing flaw on one of the masks). H. 27 cm Provenance: Passed down through the generations of a family of chemists from the Besançon region, who lived in Shanghai and then in Indochina between the 1920s and 1940s.
