CHINA, late Qing dynasty–early Republic of China period, early 20th century. A pair of porcelain baluster vases, with an inverted design featuring figures and children in ‘Famille Rose’ enamels within reserved areas against a coral-coloured background adorned with stylised gilded medallions. Apocryphal Qianlong seal mark on the bases. (The vases are of slightly different heights) H. 46 cm – 46.8 cm Provenance: Passed down through the generations of a family of chemists from the Besançon region, who lived in Shanghai and then in Indochina in the 1920s–1940s.
