[NICE] BLAEU, Willem – BLAEU, Jan. Map of the territories of His Royal Highness the Duke of Savoy, Prince of Piedmont, King of Cyprus. Volume II covering Savoy. The Hague, Adrian Moetjens, 1700. 1 folio volume. Unbound sheets. An allegorical frontispiece by Lairesse, engraved by G. Valck. Waterstains in the margins; title page of Volume II featuring a large title vignette by Lamsvelt, 4 folios of the Introduction and ‘The Boundaries of Savoy’ with a header by Francis Bottard engraved by Gouwen, an initial letter and a large end-piece, followed by pages 155 to 168, then 173 to 176, 179 to 183, [1]f of table of contents. This is the original French edition. Translated by Jacques Bernard. The extract features illustrations of the following towns, laid out in two columns: Nice-sur-le-Var (2 double plates), Villefranche-sur-Mer (2 double plates), the town of Espel (1 double plate), Saorgio (1 double plate), the town of Tende (1 double plate), the Trophies of Augustus, commonly known as Torbia (1 single plate & 1 double plate), Barcelonne (1 double plate), and Villars (1 double plate). A few engraved tailpieces. The illustrations presented here consist of 10 double plates and one single plate corresponding to the sections listed above: Nicæ civitas, Nicæ ad varum, Villa franca apud Niciam ad varum, porto di villafranca, hospitellum, oppidi saurgii, and viæ regiæ a Carolo Emanuele I, Tendarum oppidum, Turris Turbiæ, Trophea Augusti, Barchinona, Villarium oppidu. The plates were engraved by Decker, de Hooghe, Jan Blaeu, and other artists. The engravings are in good condition. Leaves Q, R and V are missing.
