GUIAUD, Jacques – FELON, Joseph. Nice, views & costumes. Nice, Delbacchi, [1861]. 1 vol. oblong in-4. Black half-percale, blue cardboard covers, title printed on the front cover. A collection comprising 16 lithographs, including 10 colour lithographs by Jacques Guiaud: the public gardens, a view from the Col de Villefranche, the Boulevard du Midi, Quai Masséna, the Promenade des Anglais, the harbour entrance, Cimiès and St Pons, Villefranche, St André Castle, Monaco Castle – and 6 two-tone costume studies by Joseph Felon: fishermen’s wives, the washerwomen, fountain on the Boulevard du Midi, return to the village, olive harvest, rest. Guiaud was a drawing teacher in Nice. He exhibited thirty-four times at the Salons between 1831 and 1876. For the Empire Rooms at the Château de Versailles, he produced seven historical scenes (including three copies of works by J. Bagetti and one by A. Roehn) celebrating the glory of Napoleon I. Félon had taught himself lithography and settled permanently in this town after several successes in Paris. Waterstains and a corner with water damage, soiled cardboard cover, damage to the spine.
