Description
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Eisenhower Silver Dollar 1971
San Francisco (24.00 g)
Under seal. Very nice.
The silver "Eisenhower dollars" were minted at the San Francisco Mint. The branch was responsible for producing uncirculated strikes and proofs of the one-dollar coin for collectors, to prevent hoarding. These Eisenhower dollars contain 60% copper and 40% silver.
The obverse features a portrait of Dwight David Eisenhower, nicknamed Ike. He was born on 14 October 1890 in Denison (Texas) and died on 28 March 1969 in Washington, D.C. A member of the Republican Party, he was the 34th President of the United States, serving from 20 January 1953 to 20 January 1961. The reverse side symbolises the Apollo 11 lunar mission of July 1969, inspired by the mission patch designed by astronaut Michael Collins.
