MAXIMIN I the Thracian 20 March 235 - April 238 MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG GERM. His bust laurelled, draped and cuirassed on the right. R/. VICTORIA GERMANICA. Victory standing facing, holding a palm and crowning the emperor standing before her. The emperor holds a sceptre and salutes. At his feet, a German captive. In the field, S-C. ♦ Cohen 114; RIC 93; BMC 198 Sesterce (large orichalcum bronze) struck in Rome in 237-238. (20,64 g) Beautiful brown patina. Nice pedigree. Very nice. A copy of the Collection of Dr E.P. Nicolas dispersed in Paris on 9 and 10 March 1982. Dr Etienne Paul Nicolas (1904 - 1981). A doctor, he was head of department at the Franco-Muslim Hospital in Paris. He was passionate about Roman history. In 1979, he published a book entitled "de Néron à Vespasien".
