Description
DUCHALAIS Adolphe 1814-1854 Description of Gaul coins in the Royal Library. Rollin Paris, 1846. First edition. In Octavo Ecu bound ½ brown leather (or percaline?) and marbled paper, titles gilt on edge 210x240mm of 487pp & IV plates Some foxing. Good condition. Description of the Gaulish Medals forming part of the Collections of the Royal Library, accompanied by additional Explanatory Notes. Work for which the Institute awarded him the 1846 prize. Jean-Baptiste Ursin Adolphe Duchalais was a French archivist, paleographer and numismatist. After graduating from the École des Chartes (1843), he became the first employee in the medals department of the Bibliothèque Impériale. Duchalais was a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, vice-president of the Société de l'École des Chartes, and a member of the Société française de numismatique and the Société nationale des antiquaires de France.
