In 1864, Eugène Hucher was invited to the Sorbonne Congress to present a general overview of his work (published in 1865) under the title L'Art gaulois ou les Gaulois d'après leurs médailles. This work, which combined archaeology and numismatics, was always accompanied by plates of drawings by Eugène Hucher himself (which became his trademark). For this work, he was awarded the Prix de Numismatique by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres in 1869.
