FAROUK King of Egypt Catalogue of the sale of King Farouk's collection "THE PALACE COLLECTIONS OF EGYPT "** Collection of world coins assembled by King Farouk and dispersed at the Koubbeh Palace in Cairo (24 February - 3 March 1954). Paperback. 2798 lots, 306 pages and 72 plates. Rare. Good condition. King Farouk I of Egypt was born on 11 February 1920 and, at just 16 years of age, on 28 April 1936, became the tenth sovereign of the Muhammad Ali dynasty and the penultimate king of Egypt and Sudan, succeeding his father, Fouad I of Egypt. Before his father's death, he was educated at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, England. He succeeded his father Fouad I on 28 April 1936 and reigned until 26 July 1952, when he was overthrown and replaced by his son Fouad II. He died thirteen years later in exile in Rome, Italy, on 18 March 1965. His sister, Faouzia Fouad, was the first wife and Queen Consort (Maleke) of the last Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. **When the king was deposed, the Egyptian revolutionary government took possession of all his collections and returned the proceeds to the national treasury. No mention was made of the king's name, just "Collection of the Palace of Egypt".
