Description
France, Third Republic (1870–1940), Paris 20 francs ‘rooster’, 1914, later re-strike. Chaplain design. Gold. Weight: 6.41 g. Uncirculated.  Franc 535.8. Note: According to *Le Franc*: In order to replenish stocks at the end of the war, nearly 202,359 coins were struck with the year 1914 in 1921. Similarly, 37,483,500 coins were struck between 1951 and 1960.  Our specimen is recognisable by its very reddish gold colour (due to a higher proportion of copper in the alloy), superior strike quality, and virtually invisible polishing of the edges.
