Description:
Also known as Arsinoe, Berenice II was the wife of Ptolemy III Euergetes, ‘the Generous’ (246–222 BC), and Queen of Egypt between 246 and 222 BC. As a figure of authority, she was depicted on coins posthumously during the reigns of Ptolemy III and Ptolemy IV.
Our coin features a rare variant of this design, with neither a border nor a symbol on the left-hand side of the obverse, whilst depicting the crowned queen and the double cornucopia.
