Lucania, Poseidonia (Paestum). Diobole, undated (445–420 BC), Poseidonia (Paestum).
Obverse: ΠΟΜΕS. Poseidon advancing to the right and brandishing a trident, with a laurel or olive branch behind him.
Reverse: ΠΟΜΕS. Bull advancing to the right; a dolphin in the exergue.
HGC 1, 1158; Silver – 1.09 g – 12 mm – 8 h
Acquired from CB [Claude Burgan] in 1991.
With the full grènetis on the obverse, but not on the reverse. This weight and diameter appear to correspond to a diobol (1/6 of a stater). Traces of rubbing. With a grey patina. TTB.
