ANCIENT GREECE - GREEK
Sicily, Siculo-Punic issues. 1/8th of a shekel or hemidrachma, Second Punic War ND (214–210 BC), Agrigento (Akragas).
Obverse: Male head (Triptolemus?) wearing a wreath of wheat, facing right.
Reverse: A free-running horse galloping to the right; below, two Punic letters (TH?).

Acquired from CB [Claude Burgan] in 1987.
The strike is slightly off-centre on the reverse. The edges are slightly corroded. With a grey patina. TTB to Superb.
Combining both Carthaginian and Numidian styles, this coin was long attributed to a much later period: the reign of the Numidian king Hiempsal II, father of the Mauritanian king Juba I. The Punic letter H has also posed a problem: it could just as easily be attributed to Hannibal himself
