Well centred on the obverse, with a grey patina with bluish highlights. Even wear. Very good condition.
Therone was a city already known in Archaic Greece. Toroni, the wife of Proteus, was revered as a goddess of the sea. She gave birth to two sons who were later defeated by Heracles. The earliest evidence of the city’s existence is its coinage. The port of Terone, which was one of the most important in Chalcidice and a member of the Delian League, collected 36,000 drachmas in annual taxes.
