From a CGB live auction, September 2019 (bgr_541318).
Close to its original mint condition, on a slightly oblong blank. Patina with golden and bluish highlights. Almost proof.
The Macedonian king Perseus probably minted this series to reward the Cretan mercenaries serving in his army (Liv. XLII, 51, 7). The mint master may have been Hermias, son of Zoilos, of Oropos, who died in 178 BC at Delphi whilst serving as hieromnemon [cf. Ashton, NC 1948 (1988) pp. 29–30 or Price, Larissa Hoard (1989) pp. 241–242]
