Thessaly, Pharsalus. Hemidrachma in the name of the magistrate TIP-ND (370–350 BC), Pharsalus.
Obverse: ΤΙΠ behind the nape of the neck. Head of Athena facing right, wearing an Attic helmet with a crest, with a raised paragnathid and floral decoration.
Reverse: Φ-Α-Ρ-Σ. Horse’s head facing right.

From the collection of Jean-Bruno Vigne, subsequently part of the JMB collection, and sold at the CGB Monnaies 57 auction on 20 February 2013, lot 107.
On a regular flan, with a centred strike, and close to its original condition. Delicate patina with iridescent highlights. One of the finest known examples. Superb in proof condition.
Pharsalus is one of the best-known cities in Thessaly due to Caesar’s victory over Pompey in 48 BC. The city was built on the slopes of Mount Narthakios on the banks of the Enipeus, forty kilometres from Larissa.
