ANCIENT GREECE - GREEK
Syria, Seleucid Kingdom, Alexander I Balas (152–145 BC). Tetradrachm SE 165 (148–147 BC), Tyre.
Obverse: Draped and diademed bust of Alexander Balas facing right.
Reverse: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ. Eagle facing left, standing on a ship’s prow, with a palm frond behind its shoulder; in front (mint mark) and behind (year).
HGC 9, 883 – SC 1835.3; Silver – 14.17 g – 24.6 mm – 12 h
The strike is off-centre on the obverse but in high relief, with a fine bust. The reverse is almost complete, with all its details intact, and slightly concave. Minimal scratches on the cheek on the obverse. Superb / Superb, near-mint condition.
