Description
ANCIENT GREECE - GREEK
Phoenicia, Byblos, Addirmilk or Adramélek (c. 375–351 BC). 1/16 of a shekel (reduced Phoenician standard) ND, Byblos.
Obverse: Phoenician pentakontérion on the left, surmounted by three hoplites; beneath the waves to the north-east and a swimming seahorse on the left.
Reverse: DRMLK MLK GBL (“Addirmilk, King of Gebal” in Phoenician). Leaping lion attacking a stag, to the left.
HGC 10, 137 – Betlyon 19; Silver – 0.81 g – 11 mm – 7 h
Acquired from J.-M. Doyen in 1997.
The strike is slightly off-centre on the obverse but clearly legible. The reverse is complete with its inscription. Original patina. TTB / Superb.
