Description
GAUL - CELTIC Massilia - Marseille. Tritartémorion depicting the head of Athena wearing a helmet, facing left, reverse (495–485 BC), Marseille. Obverse: Head of Athena facing left, wearing an Attic helmet adorned with a spiral. Reverse: Hollow square. Dicomon OBA-Ea – Furtwängler Ea1 (1 specimen) - RN 1983, pl. VI–VII, nos. 6–10; Silver – 0.86 g – 11 mm – 12 h Acquired from P.-F. Jacquier in 1990. A type from the Auriol hoard discovered in 1867. On an irregularly shaped but fairly large flan, with the head of Athena in high relief on the obverse. Slight grey patina. Superb.
