Massilia – Marseille. Hemiobol with a lion’s head facing left, undated (500–470 BC), Marseille.
Obverse: Lion’s head facing left, mouth open.
Reverse: Hollow square.

From a Bourgey auction on 14 November 1972, lot no. 119, then purchased from DZP [Derzypolsky] in April 2003. Type from the Auriol hoard discovered in 1867.
On an oblong blank, the design is struck in high relief. Beautiful dark patina. Superb.
