GAUL - CELTIC Massilia – Marseille. Drachma or tetrabole featuring a fierce lion on the left, ND (c. 125–100 BC), Marseille. Obverse: Draped and diademed bust of Artemis facing right, wearing earrings and a pearl necklace; behind her, a quiver and a bow. Reverse: ΜΑΣΣΑ. Lion on the left, right forepaw raised; between the legs, Λ and AΛ in the exergue. MHM.44/6 – Dicomon 44/6 – Brenot 81; Silver – 2.73 g – 16 mm – 6 h The strike is slightly off-centre. The letter Λ in the reverse exergue may have been re-engraved over another letter. With a patina with golden highlights. Almost Superb.
