GAUL - CELTIC Massilia – Marseille. Light drachma or tetrabole, featuring a bust of ND wearing a diadem (100–82 BC), Marseille. Obverse. Head of Artemis facing right, wearing a diadem, with earrings and a pearl necklace; behind her, a quiver and a bow; in front, the monogram ΓΑ or ΓΛ. Reverse. ΜΑΣΣΑ. Lion facing right; AHX in the exergue and A in front of the lion. MHM.50B/8 (ΓΑ) – Dicomon DRM-55-8 and 55-65 (ΓΛ) – Brenot 93; Silver – 2.72 g – 15.5 mm - 6 h Acquired from Bourgey in 1991. Beautifully struck, slightly off-centre on the obverse. A few black deposits on the reverse. Beautiful grey patina with iridescent sheen. Superb.
