Description
GAUL - CELTIC Caletes. Light denarius, depicting a helmeted head and a horse, undated (1st century BC). Obverse: Profile to the left, with shaggy hair; a small ring with a dot beneath the chin; a crescent behind the nape of the neck; and other indistinct features in front of the face. Reverse: Horse galloping to the right; above, a beaded disc; between the legs, a sort of loop resembling the letter R, with a dot within the loop; a small ring beneath the tail. DT.S 663A = this specimen! – LT.-; Silver – 1.92 g – 13 mm – 12 h From the vicinity of Cany-Barville according to the *Nouvel Atlas*. This is the specimen illustrated in the supplement to the *Nouvel Atlas* no. 663A. Slightly off-centre strike on the obverse. With a deep, dark patina. Unique. Very Fine. The late coins of the Caletes were the subject of a study in *Cahiers Numismatiques* 247, March 2026, pp. 23–29, by Louis-Pol Delestrée and Pierre Messa. Our specimen is described in fig.
