Description
GAUL - CELTIC
Normandy (Normandy group). Hemistater with a bige and pseudo-inscription ‘PHILIPPE ND’ (3rd century BC).
Obverse. Beardless profile to the right, with exuberant curly hair in hooked locks interspersed with dots, the ear clearly marked; an ‘S’ in front of the nose and another, or an arch, beneath the neck.
Reverse: IΠΠΠ in pseudo-legend in the exergue. A charioteer driving a two-horse chariot to the right, with his left hand shaped like a lily and his right hand disproportionately large and ending in a whip; a volute in the shape of an ‘esse’ extends from the charioteer’s nose; upper border of floral elements.

This specimen is reproduced in SENA’s *Cahiers Numismatiques* 213, September 2017.
Probably attributed to the Aulerci Eburovici and the Aulerci Evreux (though the *Nouvel Atlas* series 2 attributes it to the *Pays de Caux*). Large-sized, with a remarkable style. The centring and strike are excellent. A golden patina covers both sides. Extremely rare, if not unique. Superb in mint condition.
