GAUL - CELTIC Normandy. Quinar featuring a horse and a wild boar, undated (1st century BC). Obverse: Head facing left, with almond-shaped eyes, a beard on the chin, and hair in twisted plaits, wearing a pearl necklace, all set against a greenish background. Reverse: A horse galloping to the left, a wild boar above the hindquarters and a rosette beneath the belly; small rings in the field and wave-like decorations in front of and above the horse. DT.S 2267D = this specimen! - LT.-; Silver - 1.38 g - 13 mm - 12 h From the CGB 24 Auction by Tender, 2005, lot 985 “Baïocasses … previously unpublished”. This is the specimen reproduced in the *Nouvel Atlas*, Supplement, no. 2267D. Appears to be unique; this type first appeared in 2005. Of indeterminate Norman origin, or perhaps from the Ambiens? The strike is slightly off-centre. Very Good.
