Description
GAUL - CELTIC
Normandy, Pays de Caux. Quarter-stater with a mallet, Class III, featuring a laureate profile of the Virgin Mary (220–150 BC).
Obverse. Apollonian profile to the right, wearing a laurel wreath, with a full head of hair consisting of strands arranged in opposing crescents, more or less interlocked. Pronounced brow ridge.
Reverse: A bige (a visible horse) on the left, surmounted by a disproportionate charioteer, galloping along a line of earth. Beneath the horse, a mallet with a vertical handle.
