GAUL - CELTIC
Baïocasses. A quarter-stater of epigraphic billon inscribed “SANTO / CORIOTOS”, undated (1st century BC).
Obverse: Geometric profile facing right, with hair formed of semicircles containing strands within, and plaits. A fibula and a fastener (a horse’s bit?) at the neck. In front of the long, straight nose, a wild boar facing upwards, with bristles standing on end. In front of the chin, a disc. Behind and below the profile, a geometric design with the inscription SA[NT]O[//].
Reverse: [CORI - OTOS]. A free-running horse on the right, surmounted by a highly stylised charioteer; in front of the chest, a wheel? and below it, an eight-spoked wheel.
