GAUL - CELTIC Osismes. Quarter-stater depicting a tent; androcephalic figure facing left, ND (c. 80–50 BC). Obverse: Head facing right, hair in three thick locks; beaded cords wound around it. Reverse: Androcephalic horse facing left; above, a small human head looking upwards; a racecourse barrier between the horse’s legs and a cross in front of its chest, attached by a thread. DT.- (cf. 2213–2216, reverse to the right, low-grade gold) – LT.6506 (reverse to the left); Electrum – 1.51 g – 14.5 mm – 10 h From the André Breton collection, Calmels Cohen auction, A. Weil (auctioneer), 14 April 2003, lot 3062. Spectrometer analysis shows 46 per cent copper, 31 per cent silver and 21 per cent gold. Featuring the tent and the reverse facing left, correctly engraved in Latour but absent from the *Nouvel Atlas*. A fine, centred strike, with a grey patina and subtle golden highlights. Superb.
