GAUL - CELTIC Osismes. Quarter-stater, ‘armed horseman’ series, ND (150–50 BC). Obverse: Stylised profile to the right, with a large eye facing round in the centre, a broad cheek and a broad forehead flanked by two tufts of hair, set within a grid-like pattern (?). Reverse: Androcephalic horse facing right, surmounted by a stylised charioteer whose hand ends in a bezant; beneath the horse, a beaded wheel (?). DT.S 2231A = this specimen! ; Electrum – 1.92 g – 12.5 mm – 12 o’clock Acquired in 2006. This is the specimen featured in the Supplement to the New Atlas, no. 2231A. The blank is only slightly irregular, with a small notch at 12 o’clock. Beautiful yellow colour, with a golden patina. Rare. Superb.
