GAUL - CELTIC
Abrincatui. Stater with a luniform profile, Class III ‘with an ornate cheek’, var. 1 (with three small rings and an eye without a pupil) ND (late first half of the 1st century BC and the Gallic Wars).
Obverse. Head facing right in the shape of a crescent moon with an almond-shaped eye and a cheek adorned with three pointed rings; hair in wavy locks swept back, parted in the middle on the crown; beaded necklace; in front of the prominent chin, a small inverted human profile.
Reverse: A horse facing right, driven by a highly stylised charioteer holding a shaft; a vertical lyre between two radiating rings beneath the horse and a small wild boar standard in front of the horse’s chest.

May have come from one of the many hoards discovered on the Isle of Jersey in the last century.
Made of fine silver, with a centred strike and a very complete profile of its features on the obverse. The patina is grey. Superb.
