Description
GAUL - CELTIC Coriosolites. Billon stater, Class II, with a pointed nose, ND (c. 50 BC). Obverse: Profile to the right with hair styled in three large curls; a straight, pointed nose following the very pronounced brow ridge; scrollwork radiating from the mouth. Reverse: Androcephalic figure on the right, depicted as a charioteer with an elongated beak, above a double beaded mane flaring out over the rump. Below, a wild boar on the right. DT.2341 - LT.6598; Billon – 5.87 g – 18.5 mm – 8 h The obverse is clearly struck, in high relief. The reverse is off-centre but still shows the front and upper part of the figure, with the entire scroll in front of the horse. The patina is dark, with ochre deposits on the reverse. Superb.
