GAUL - CELTIC Aulerci Eburovices. Hemistater with a wolf, Class II with a tattooed cheek, var. 1 ND (early 1st century BC to the Gallic Wars). Obverse Highly stylised head, wearing a laurel wreath on the left; the hair formed by a sprig of mistletoe between two beaded strands forming a V; below the parallel strands, a large ‘esse’ and a broad swastika of strands at the nape of the neck; the cheek tattooed with two beaded lines. Reverse: A galloping horse facing right, with a charioteer crouching over the hindquarters; a wheel behind the horse; a wolf (with two depicted legs) to the right between the legs; in front of the head, a star. DT.2394 - LT.7017 - Scheers Class II No. 5; Gold - 3.42 g - 18 mm - 10 h Beautifully struck on a slightly concave flan, in yellow gold.
