GAUL - CELTIC Aulerci Eburovices. Lamellar denarius derived from the type featuring the head of Pallas; reverse showing a sea monster with the letters ‘ND’ (1st century BC). Obverse: Highly stylised profile of Pallas facing right, wearing a shattered helmet; the crest depicted as two double crescents open to the right; the cheek and nose visible; the eye and mouth formed by three superimposed dots; decorated with rippling waves. Reverse: Galloping horse to the right; above, a sort of wild boar?; between its legs, a sea monster (or seahorse?) and wavy line decoration. DT.2423 = this specimen! - LT.-; Silver - 0.8 g - 14 mm - 11 h Acquired from Steph. W [Stéphane Werochowski] in 2017. This is the specimen illustrated in the *Nouvel Atlas* no. 2423 as “unpublished”. Well centred, on a fairly wide flan, with a fine grey patina. Very Good to Superb. This denarius belongs to Class E of Allen’s typology, which he calls the “snake type”, or to Class 1b of S. Scheers, a stylised variety of the seahorse type. In the new classification by J.-P. Delestrée and M. Tache, this type is found in series 414, “silver derivatives with the head of Pallas”.
