GAUL - CELTIC Central-West (Pictones / Bituriges / Carnutes). Quinaris with the inscription GI[A]MILOS ND (1st century BC). Obverse: [G]IMILO[S]. Profile of a woman wearing a diadem, facing right (Venus?), with a pearl necklace. Reverse: [G]IMILOS in the exergue. Horseman facing right, with a palm frond on his shoulder; two ball-headed hooks on the ground. DT.3686 – LT.7574 – MSAO No. 37, 1873, Study of Gallic coins found in Poitou and Saintonge, pp. 493–532; Silver – 1.59 g – 14 mm – 5 h Acquired from Séb. [Sébastien Prat] in 2012. Our specimen bears the inscription GIMILOS (MDC 16 no. 326 is indeed GIAMILOS on the obverse). The fields have been lightly scraped with a needle. Well centred, particularly on the obverse, with a dark patina showing bluish highlights. Rare. Very Fine to Superb. This quinarius is a copy of the denarius of Marcius Lucius Philippus struck in 113–112 BC. The patronymic Giamilos is attested chiefly amongst the Senones, to whom the GIAMILOS bronze coin featuring an eagle is attributed.
