Description
GAUL - CELTIC Bituriges Cubes. Inscriptionless quinarius with a ‘coiled serpent’, probably an imitation of the Belgium ND (1st century BC). Obverse: Laurel-wreathed head with two ears of wheat to the left, wearing a pearl necklace. A small pointed ring in front of the neck. Reverse: Horse to the left (Belgian style) with a beaded cord emerging from its mouth to form the mane. A small ring with a point in front of and between the legs. A rosette above. Behind, a sort of simpulum or coiled serpent. DT.3434 = this specimen!; Silver – 1.27 g – 15 mm – 8 h This is the specimen illustrated in the *Nouvel Atlas*, plate XX, no. 3434. The flan is irregular, almost lamellar. It has an old grey patina, slightly iridescent. Very Fine to Superb.
