Description
GAUL - CELTIC
Bituriges Cubes. Drachma depicting a horseman and a hand, Class II, Variety 2 with a smooth cheek, ND (late 2nd – early 1st century BC).
Obverse. Head facing right; the hair consists of a row of Aquitanian locks framing the face, with the remainder gathered into a sort of bun at the back, and a double collar.
Rev. Horseman on the right, with a plait, holding a shield behind him; beneath the horse, a hand with the thumb protruding.
DT.3343 - BN.4427; Silver – 3.32 g – 17 mm – 11 h
From the Changarnier collection, Monnaies et Médailles Auction 47, 30 November and 1 December 1972, lot 229, and purchased from Bourgey in 1984.
With a wide flan, the strike is slightly off-centre on the obverse. With a grey patina. Very Good.
