GAUL - CELTIC Peoples of the Atlantic coast. Quinary (fraction) featuring a human head within a wolf’s muzzle, ND (150–50 BC). Obverse: A wolf’s mouth with bared teeth, open to the right and holding, between its jaws, a small human head to the right. Above and below, what appear to be tufts of the wolf’s fur, shaped like crescents. Reverse: A free-running horse galloping to the right, with a wading bird on its rump; below, a pointed ring and two beaded torques. DT.3698 = this specimen!; Silver – 0.53 g – 9.5 mm – 12 h This is the specimen illustrated in the *Nouvel Atlas*, plate XXXI no. 3698. Small in size and complete, with the reverse showing the wading bird. Barely cleaned. Very rare. Very Good to Very Good-Plus.
