Description
GAUL - CELTIC Cadurci. Drachma with a triangular head, ND (2nd–1st centuries BC). Obverse: Stylised head facing left, with a triangular eye and a crescent-shaped element for the mouth. A floral motif forming the neck. Reverse: A ball-headed cross flanked at the 1 o’clock position by a globule within a crescent with a dot below it; at the 2 and 4 o’clock positions by a bezant; at the 3 o’clock position by a large hollowed-out axe facing left. Savès 131–132 v. – Hiriart 7.03; Silver – 3.34 g – 15 mm – 6 h Acquired from CB [Claude Burgan] in 1989. On an irregular blank, with the designs centred despite some weak striking. Deep grey patina with golden highlights. Superb.
