Description
GAUL - CELTIC Ruteni. Drachma depicting an open hand and the letters ND (2nd–1st centuries BC). Obverse. Head facing left, with almond-shaped eyes and beaded hair hanging down behind the nape of the neck, and a beaded necklace; two volutes extend from the mouth. Reverse: A ball-headed cross forming four fields; a semicircle with stems in the 1st and 4th fields, an open hand in the 2nd field and a hollowed-out axe on the left in the 3rd field. Savès 381 v. – Hiriart 14.05; Silver – 1.5 g – 14 mm – 10 h Acquired from Steph. W [Stéphane Werochowski] in 2017. On a rectangular blank cut with shears. The obverse shows the front of the face with scrolls emerging from the mouth, and the motifs on the reverse are clearly identifiable. Beautiful grey patina. Very good condition.
