GAUL - CELTIC Sotiates. Drachma bearing the curly-haired head of Causé ND (120–60 BC). Obverse. Head facing left, hair arranged in a single row of interlaced S-shaped curls; the eye and ear shaped like almonds centred on a dot, the long, straight nose ending in a hook to form the mouth. Reverse. A ball-headed cross dividing the field into four quarters; a globule with a crescent in the first quarter, an ‘S’ in the second quarter, two dots connected to a dotted circle in the third, and a small ring beneath a crescent in the fourth quarter. Savès 239 – Hiriart 10.01; Silver – 2.77 g – 15 mm – 3 h On a square blank, cut with shears. A beautifully styled, distinctive bust on the obverse. The reverse is slightly off-centre but identifiable. Beautiful antique grey patina. Superb.
