GAUL - CELTIC
Volques Tectosages. Drachma, early series featuring dolphins, ND (230–160 BC).
Obverse. Head in profile to the left, eye facing forwards, with hair in large wavy locks, wearing a beaded necklace.
Reverse: A ball-headed cross in the centre, each quarter decorated with a crescent: an ear in the 1st, a four-pointed bee in the 2nd; an axe on the left in the 3rd and an eye in the 4th.
Savès 295 – Hiriart 3.05; Silver – 3.47 g – 14 mm – 10 h
Acquired from Ste. Wero [Stéphane Werochowski] in 2004.
Well centred on the obverse; the reverse is slightly off-centre but clearly identifiable. With a grey patina. Very Good to Superb condition.
