GAUL - CELTIC
Volques Tectosages. Drachma, Cubist series, with the eyelid emphasised, ND (170–50 BC).
Obverse. Head facing left, hair in large oval locks, two dolphins in front of the face; the eye emphasised by an eyelid.
Reverse: Cross flanked by an olive [and a crescent] in the 1st and 2nd quarters, an axe and a crescent in the 3rd quarter, and an ellipse and a crescent in the 4th quarter.
Savès 41, variety 3 ‘with a pouch under the eye’ – Hiriart 4.01; Silver – 3.45 g – 12.5 mm – 11 h
Acquired from Bourgey in 1986.
On a rectangular blank. Minimal rust discolouration on the obverse. Beautiful grey patina. Very Good.
