GAUL - CELTIC Tolosates. Drachma, ‘plume’ series [or with the so-called ‘Negroid’ head] ND (2nd–1st centuries BC). Obverse: Negroid-type head facing left, hair in a Y-shape bordered by S-curves. Reverse: A ball-headed cross forming four quarters, each decorated with a crescent; a small ring in the first quarter and a globule in the others. Savès 75 – LT.2986 – Hiriart 5.01; Silver – 2.68 g – 15.5 mm – 9 h Acquired from S. Bourgey in 2020. On a blank cut with shears, and struck with fairly good centring for this type. The patina is anthracite. Superb.
